Walking In The Light

Walking In The Light

I John 1:5-7 - This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Sir Isaac Newton was on a different wavelength. Bernard Baruch said “Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the one who asked “Why?” His curious nature caused him to discover things about light that were previously observed but not understood. When doing Science, he had an awareness that he was exploring the mind of God. To him, truth was truth, whether found in the world or the Word.

Newton used prisms to divide white light into the colour spectrum of the rainbow. He proposed that the division of light was based on differing wavelengths. He shed light on light!

God is light, we might say white light. In Him is no darkness at all, for darkness is the absence of light, not it’s opposite. When God’s Word is preached and “rightly divided” a spectrum is produced. Not everyone hears the same thing. Not everyone remembers the same thing. Not everyone understands the same thing. The lights don’t come on for all people at the same time. People are on different wavelengths, and we must be patient and instruct in meekness (2 Timothy 2:25). But we also must accept that ANY light removes darkness, but only from the area it illuminates.

Newton, with all he knew about light and the Lord, died rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity. He affirmed infant baptism. He didn’t believe in an immortal soul (I guess he understands now!). He had so much light! He knew so much about light! How did he miss these wavelengths? What am I missing?

Am I walking in the light, or just attracted to my favourite colour? Lord, help me! I have so much to learn!
